Furniture Care Guide

At Euro Smart Furniture, we want your furniture to look beautiful and last for years to come. This guide covers care and maintenance tips for all the materials found in our product collection.

Solid Wood & Hardwood

Applies to: Solid Suar dining tables, acacia wood tables, rubberwood pieces, solid mango wood sideboards, pinewood tables, solid fir accent tables, and rocking chairs.

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Always wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources (radiators, vents) to prevent warping and fading.
  • Use coasters and placemats to protect surfaces from heat, moisture, and scratches.
  • Clean spills immediately with a dry cloth. Do not let liquids sit on the surface.
  • Condition periodically with a quality wood conditioner or furniture wax (2–4 times per year) to maintain the natural luster.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners.
  • For pieces with a polyurethane finish (e.g., live edge slab tables), wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Dry immediately.

Engineered Wood, MDF & Particle Board

Applies to: TV stands, desks, storage cabinets, coffee tables, console tables, sideboards, and pantry cabinets.

  • Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent. Dry immediately — do not allow moisture to soak in.
  • Avoid excessive moisture as it can cause swelling, warping, or delamination.
  • Do not place in bathrooms or other high-humidity environments unless specified as moisture-resistant.
  • Use felt pads under decorative items to prevent surface scratches.
  • For melamine-coated surfaces, a mild all-purpose cleaner works well. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.

Fabric Upholstery (Linen, Cotton, Velvet, Chenille, Boucle)

Applies to: Linen/cotton sofas, velvet sofas and loveseats, chenille/boucle ottomans, fabric office chairs, and convertible sofa beds.

  • Vacuum regularly using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris.
  • Blot spills immediately — never rub, as this can spread the stain and damage fibers.
  • Use a mild fabric cleaner or upholstery shampoo for stains. Always test on a hidden area first.
  • Rotate cushions regularly to ensure even wear.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, especially for velvet and linen.
  • For velvet: brush gently with a soft-bristle brush to restore the pile after cleaning.
  • Professional cleaning is recommended annually for heavily used pieces.

Leather & Faux Leather (PU, Bonded, Technical Leather)

Applies to: Chesterfield sofas, PU leather office chairs, faux leather counter stools, recliner sofas, saddle seat stools, and loveseats.

  • Wipe down weekly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and oils.
  • For spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
  • Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap solution. Dry thoroughly afterward.
  • Apply a leather conditioner every 6–12 months to genuine and bonded leather to prevent cracking and drying.
  • Avoid sharp objects and rough surfaces that can scratch or puncture the material.
  • Keep away from direct heat and sunlight to prevent fading and cracking.
  • For technical/waterproof leather (e.g., L-shaped sofa): wipe clean with a damp cloth — no special conditioner needed.

Metal Frames & Bases

Applies to: Metal folding chairs, metal entryway benches, office chair bases, metal-framed desks, industrial coffee tables, and console tables.

  • Wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Dry immediately to prevent rust.
  • For powder-coated metal: avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the coating.
  • For chrome and stainless steel: use a stainless steel cleaner or a mixture of water and white vinegar for shine.
  • For copper-finish pieces (e.g., Glam Glass Side Table): use a copper-safe cleaner to maintain the finish.
  • Inspect joints and screws periodically and tighten as needed to maintain stability.
  • Apply a thin coat of clear furniture wax to outdoor-adjacent metal pieces to protect against humidity.

Glass Surfaces (Tempered & Regular)

Applies to: Glass-top dining tables, coffee tables, TV stands with glass doors, and side tables.

  • Clean with a glass cleaner or a mixture of water and white vinegar. Wipe with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
  • Avoid abrasive sponges or steel wool that can scratch the surface.
  • Always use coasters and trivets — tempered glass can crack under extreme thermal shock.
  • Do not place extremely heavy items beyond the rated capacity on glass surfaces.
  • Handle glass tabletops with care during assembly and moving — always lift, never drag.

Marble & Marble-Textured Surfaces

Applies to: Genuine marble coffee tables, marble-textured glass tops, and faux marble console tables.

  • For genuine marble: clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon) as they can etch the surface.
  • Seal genuine marble annually with a stone sealer to protect against stains.
  • Blot spills immediately — marble is porous and can absorb liquids quickly.
  • For faux marble (veneer or 3D-printed texture): wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Treat like engineered wood.
  • Use coasters and placemats at all times to prevent etching and scratching.

Rattan & Natural Fiber

Applies to: Bohemian rattan coffee tables and similar woven pieces.

  • Dust regularly with a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove debris from the weave.
  • Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and allow to air dry completely.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent brittleness and fading.
  • Keep away from excessive moisture to prevent mold and warping.
  • Occasionally apply a thin coat of linseed oil to keep rattan supple and prevent cracking.

Outdoor & UV-Resistant Fabrics

Applies to: Indoor/Outdoor Ottoman Poufs with UV-treated polyester.

  • Clean with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
  • Store indoors or use a protective cover during extended periods of non-use or harsh weather.
  • The UV protection is rated up to 1,000 hours of sun exposure — rotate placement to extend life.

General Maintenance Tips

  • Assembly: Follow the included instructions carefully. Do not overtighten screws, as this can crack wood or strip threads.
  • Weight limits: Always respect the stated weight capacity for each piece to ensure safety and longevity.
  • Anti-tip devices: Install all included anti-tip kits for tall cabinets and storage units, especially in homes with children.
  • Leveling: Use adjustable foot pegs (where available) to ensure your furniture sits level on uneven floors.
  • Moving: Always lift furniture rather than dragging it to protect both the piece and your floors.
  • Humidity: Maintain indoor humidity between 35–55% to prevent wood from expanding, contracting, or cracking.
